What you need to follow the tutorials on the BeaverBeginner Lite website

This is a long post. In a nutshell you need…

  • The free version of GeneratePress theme.
  • The free version of Beaver Builder Page Builder plugin.
  • If you already have Genesis, that should work great too.

Get the free theme here. Get the free plugin here.

If you want to invest in the premium version of Beaver Builder, you can get it here.

First I want to make it clear that Beaver Builder offer several software products

My website shows you how to use the free version of their Beaver Builder – Page Builder plugin.

Beaver Builder also produce a WordPress theme and what they call a Themer. If you run an agency, these products are well worth considering.

What do you need if you want to follow my tutorials and build your own custom web pages just like the pages I build in these tutorials?

Obviously you’ll need Beaver Builder – Page Builder plugin, and on this site I use the free version of GeneratePress theme. I use the free version of Beaver Builder in the videos but if you have the premium version, all the better.

First let me explain that there are two parts to a website built with Beaver Builder

The Beaver Builder – Page Builder plugin controls the content area of any web page that you use it on. That is, below the header and navbar section and above the footer section.

Use Beaver Builder sparingly

Typically you would only use Beaver Builder – Page Builder plugin on a few web pages in any website. Just use Beaver Builder when you want to add that extra bit of pzazz. On the home page, about us, contact us and portfolio pages for instance.

All of the other pages and blog posts on your site would use the theme you chose in Appearance > Themes. You have to choose a theme when you first set up your website, but you can change themes any time.

Take care if you change themes!

If you’ve already used a particular theme to build many web pages and blog posts take great care if you want to change themes. This can have a big impact on how your site looks.

So, now we know it’s important that you choose a WordPress theme that plays well with Beaver Builder. And we need to choose a theme for our site that will integrate well with the Beaver Builder Page Builder plugin.

This is what the Beaver Builder team say about choosing a theme…

Beaver Builder works with just about any theme, but some will definitely work better than others.

Luckily the Beaver Builder team recommend four themes that they claim work especially well with the page builder plugin.

The recommended themes are…

If you’ve got the money and you’re a successful freelancer or run a web design agency, buying the official Beaver Builder Theme bundled with the Beaver Builder – Page Builder plugin is a good choice.

A good free starter theme

I want you to join in with me and complete my tutorials, whether you can afford the premium theme or not. So in these tutorials I’ll be using the free version of GeneratePress theme, that way you can join in and follow along. And you don’t need any money to get started.

The Rolls Royce Choice

If you run an agency or you’re a successful freelancer and you do choose to upgrade to the premium version of Beaver Builder – Page Builder plugin, and you are going to buy a theme too, the Beaver Builder Theme and Beaver Builder – Page Builder plugin package deal is definitely worth considering. However, it’s not cheap!

A cost effective premium theme

If you’re on a tight budget my choice would be to go for the premium version of GeneratePress theme and stick with the free version of Beaver Builder Page Builder plugin.

I’m amazed at the quality of the sites that I can build with this combination.

Now is the time to get started…

And because the tools I use on this site are completely free, you can get started right now. Good luck and best wishes on your journey. The world is waiting to see your new creations online soon.
